Please visit Mr. Presby's Welding and Metal Fabrication website for additional information and pictures about the Welding Technology and Blacksmithing Basics program.

Program Description:
Many performance tests will be administered with a focus on welding with 6010 – 6011 – 6013 – 7018 – 7024 electrodes in the Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW) welding process culminating in the D1.1 structural steel limited plate test.  Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) will be taught and practiced in both first and second year curriculums.  Pipe fitting and pipe welding on Schedule 40 pipe 6” pipe in the 2G – 5G – 6G positions will be practiced in the second year.  Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG) in carbon, stainless, and aluminum plate will also be an option for advanced students.  Plasma Arc Cutting and Carbon Arc Cutting are also introduced and practiced throughout the two year program.

The Welding Technology course includes instruction in the safe operation and handling of Oxygen and Acetylene/MAPP gases during the welding, brazing and cutting processes.  Safe handling and operation of pneumatic, electric and hydraulic equipment as used for base metal preparation will be taught and practiced regularly.  Identification of hand tools and their proper uses including precision measuring tools will be taught with precise tolerances required.  OSHA Safety Standards will be reinforced throughout this two year course.  Math computation including addition and subtraction of fractions, fraction to decimal conversion, basic geometry, and algebra are all practiced regularly within our PLATO lab once a week and applied within our daily instruction.  Blueprint reading and sketching are also taught on a regular basis.

Blacksmithing basics will be imbedded into our curriculum with many small projects fabricated with understanding of metal forming and forging gained and knowledge of metal forming origins understood.
