Program Description:

Manufacturing Technology/Precision Machining is an exciting career opportunity in Maine with many jobs currently unfilled because of the lack of trained personnel.  Students in this program learn the basic skills that enable them to visualize and sketch a product, draw a model of it using a 3D CAD computer program, produce a plastic prototype on a 3D printer, then manufacture a precision finished product in aluminum or steel.  Students learn to safely operate metal lathes, milling machines, bandsaws, drill presses, and precision grinders.  Students develop skills in print reading and CAD (Computer Aided Design), and learn to program, set up, and operate CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery.  Advanced students are introduced to Industrial Robotics and Fundamentals of Engineering. This course provides an excellent foundation for careers in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Robotics, and CNC Programming.

Machining Fundamentals—first year textbook, Precision Machining Technology—second year Textbook, Tooling University/Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME)—60 online classes, Operations Manual for Machine Tool Technology, Machine Trades Print Reading, Mathematics for Machine Technology
